We were in Kenya near Amboseli National Park on a game drive. These are open sided jeeps that allow you to get great views and photo opportunities of the wildlife.

Our Maasai guide, spotted this lioness and stop the vehicle so we could watch it walk across the savanna. It was wonderful to spend minutes and even hours just watching these wild creatures in their natural habitat.

For this photo, I did have a long lens which lets me look much closer than I really was. And I’m glad I was a distance away because the stare this lioness gave made me wonder if she was sizing us up for an afternoon meal.

I love the range of earth tones in this photo from the dry grasses in the background to the various colors on the lioness’s coat. I also love the clarity of the image, you can push all the way in, and her eyes remain in focus.
