When we visited Vietnam a few years ago we reserved a show at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theater. We were treated to a performance that has a history dating back some 1,000 years as people gathered in the fields each year after harvest for festivals that included puppet shows held in flooded rice fields.
We spent several days walking around historic Hanoi and saw so many wonderful scenes. I captured this photo of puppets at a small shop near the center of Hanoi, they had many puppets for sale. This image carries a great deal of character, with the cracked lacquer. The position of the puppets and the red lipped faces create an almost eery look. You can see the elbow joints in the closest puppets.
