In the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand there is a Buddhist temple on the hill overlooking the valley. Took a car up the winding road and the last part of the journey is a long set of steps called the Naga Staircase that leads up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
We arrived late in the afternoon and stayed into the evening. Seeing the golden altars and statues, listening to the Buddhist monks chant their prayers was a special experience. On the way back down I captured this photo of my wife descending the Naga Steps. I love the contrast of the glowing lights and colors against the dark of night. I was fortunate that not many others were around that time of day – but the few people at the bottom of the steps adds to the feeling of just how long and tall the steps are.
