We visited 4 countries in Europe a few years ago and it was my first time to the country of Slovenia. My wife did a great job researching and booked us 4 days in the lakeside town of Bled. Set in the Julian Alps, it’s a medieval town with a long history. As we walked around the lake our first full day there I paused to capture this photo,
If you look at the base of the island you can see the pletna boat just pulling away. You can only reach the island by these wooden boats designed hundreds of years ago, or by a rowboat. You can also see the steps leading up to the 17th century Church of the Assumption that sits atop this small island (it’s local tradition for the groom to carry his bride up the 99 steps to ensure a happy marriage
This is one of my favorite travel “places” photos that I have captured. It’s such an amazing place to visit – and truly like something from a fairy tale. One of the most beautiful places I have visited.
