On our recent trip to the Big Island I saw more eels while snorkeling than our previous trips. Here are some memories of those eel-encounters. This image is as close as I felt mildly uncomfortable being to this Eel. You can see where it gets its nickname, the Whitemouth Eel. I swam down several times to attempt to get closer to get a decent photo (and quickly swam away to avoid experiencing its white mouth on my skin).
