The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist is one of the oldest building in Puerto Rico – and in the Americas.  It’s more than 500 years old and located in Viejo San Juan – old San Juan.  On our trip to the island a few years ago we stayed in old San Juan and relished walking the narrow streets.  There is a little plaza and this beautiful old cathedral.

I captured this photo of the altar during the season of Lent and the vestments of purple confirm this time in the liturgical calendar.
