Several years ago while visiting California colleagues for my youngest son we stopped at Mission Santa Barbara. I learned this building is often called the Queen of California Missions for its beauty and design.  Built originally in 1820, the chapel exterior was reconstructed in the 1950s due to settling and deterioration – but to adhere to the original design.

When I am visiting places I often look for unique angles and perspectives.  I was happy to find this fountain outside the chapel – I was able to use the fountain to block out the sun while still capturing the beauty of the front of the mission chapel.   The reflection of the chapel towers in the still waters of the fountain and the floating lotus flowers and Lilly pads add a wonderful compliment to the image.
