While visiting Muir Woods National Monument some years ago I came across this really unique looking plant. I’ve done some research and as far as I can tell this appears to be a plant whose common name is Old Man’s Beard (if you’re into Botany and can correct or confirm this I would be happy).
Regardless of it’s name I find it a fascinating looking plant. I like the angle of this photo, looking up at the plant as if we’re underneath it. If I remember correctly it was a tall branch so that was an easy position. I think the blue sky with some wispy clouds adds to the image.
If you look closely you can clearly see the many twisty brown elements that the white “fuzz” grows on. It reminds me of a blend between a dandelion and cotton. I believe a cloudy, white sky day would have prevented us from really seeing the colors and textures of the plant.
