Though it’s not as colorful as sunsets on the other side of the Big Island, I do enjoy this photo I captured late in the afternoon over Hilo Bay. The clouds are gathering over Mauna Kea, the tallest peak in the Hawaiian Islands (and the tallest mountain on earth if you start measuring under the sea).
I like the palm-ish plants in the foreground at left along with the shadowed silhouette of the majestic Mauna Kea. Though the clouds are thick where the sun is setting it still shines brightly – a metaphor for those troubled times when the light overcomes the darkness. The deep blue sky is reflected on the bay – with its choppy waters.
