Early morning looking towards sunrise over the Badlands, South Dakota.
I intentionally woke up early to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. We stayed in a motel just outside the National Park, arriving late in the evening. Had no idea exactly what the sun would look like over the peaks of the Badlands. They were farther off than I imagined but I crouched down in the prairie grass and captured the moment the sun began peeking over the distant hills.
The prairie grass accentuated the warm colors in the photo. I like how the silhouette of the Badlands stretch across the frame. I thought about cropping the image to reduce the amount of grass in the foreground but chose to keep it as I believe it adds to the effect that we are definitely in the grasslands.
